Between Waiting and Hope
The collection Entre La Espera Y La Esperanza was born on the banks of the Magdalena River in Honda, Tolima, where life flows to the rhythm of the water and the river's cycles mark the pulse of the people. Inspired by the artisanal craft of fishing with a cast net—an ancient practice that today faces oblivion—this collection captures the poetry of those who cast their nets not only for sustenance, but for faith. In times of high water , the river fills with fish and life; in times of low water , the water recedes, fish become scarce, and the town pauses. Amid these ebbs and flows, fishing demands patience, preparation, and solitude: waiting . But it also offers a powerful and ritual moment—the casting of the cast net—in which the fisherman trusts, desires, and gives everything to the river: hope . The collection interprets this vital ebb and flow as a metaphor for resilience and faith, translating into jewelry the gestures, rhythms, and symbols of a trade that still struggles to survive.
Gregorio Martínez- Weaver
Born in Tolima, his difficult childhood forced him to leave home at age 11 to make a living and help his family. He became a guerrilla and later a police officer, traveling the country and learning to defend himself. “Life shaped me,” he says, having served on both sides of the war. At age 50, an accident nearly left him unable to walk, but he got back on his feet against all odds. “Human beings worry more about the insignificant than the essential; you have to stop and move forward.” He has always been a tireless learner and creator.
Raúl Rondón - Fisherman
The only one of the eight Rendón brothers to stay in Honda, rooted in fishing for all it has given him. Although he also works in construction, his true passion is the river. His father taught him to understand the Magdalena, knowledge he still shares with his fishing friends. He knows the profession has little future, but he enjoys it to the end. He gladly welcomes students from all over the country, sharing both the challenges and the richness of fishing, hoping that his story will not be lost.
